There is the natural resistance to obeying rules and regulations. Man wants to range free and not be constrained by God's commandments. Jesus' disciples would have loved to be free of following the laws which God had given. But Jesus made it clear that He had not come to abolish the laws. The laws were meant to lead man to righteous living. Rather than relax the laws, Jesus made His disciples to know that He was calling them to a higher order of righteousness than the laws demands. The scribes and Pharisees loved to teach people the law, but they were not willing to submit themselves to obeying the laws. God is not interested in playing religion; He demands that those who call the name of the Lord should depart from iniquity and put into practice all that laws demand. The righteousness of the Christian should go beyond verbal profession.
POINT OF EMPHASIS: The righteousness of the Christian should go beyond verbal acclamation.
PRAYER POINT: Father, establish us in practical righteous living.
